West Central Ohio Podiatry

Diabetes and your foot health

There are nearly 24 million people in the United States with diabetes. One of the most common complications of this disease is a problem in the feet and lower extremities. Neuropathy is a condition associated with diabetes that describes the numbness and burning sensation patients experience due to the damage of the nerve endings and blood vessels in the lower extremities. This can lead to serious complications in the diabetic foot as patients often don’t realize there is a problem until it is too late.

At West Central Ohio Podiatry, our doctors and staff work with patients to educate them on care of the diabetic foot and are sure to provide them with the preventative care needed to reduce the likelihood of developing major limb threatening complications. In the event that complications would occur, our physicians are trained in diabetic limb salvage and surgical reconstruction. They will work along side other medical professionals to provide you with the best care available.

Medicare Diabetic Shoe Program:

Amputations in diabetic patients are on the rise. In order to prevent limb-threatening infections and reduce the number of amputations, the government has developed a program to provide patients with the proper shoe gear necessary to help prevent such complications.

The physicians and staff at West Central Ohio Podiatry are authorized Medicare suppliers for diabetic shoes. This means, if you are diabetic, you are eligible to be properly evaluated, fitted, and dispensed a pair of diabetic shoes with 3 pairs of custom molded inserts per calendar year. Call our office today to see if you qualify for this program. We have joined forces with Dr. Comfort Footware to provide you with the highest quality of diabetic shoes. Know someone with diabetes? Tell them about our diabetic shoe program too, and let us help them in prevention
